Hearing Aid Users Report Sound Issues Following iPhone Updates

Abilene hearing aid users are pretty sharp when it comes to keeping up with frequent changes to technology, but there are times when technology creates some headaches, even for experts.

A recent example of technology causing plenty of frustration and stress for hearing aid users is the simultaneous release of the Apple iPhone 12 and their iOS 14 software update.

The issue affects hearing aid wearers in the community who purchased the new iPhone 12 and are experiencing issues when linking their hearing aids to the device.

Our team of hearing aid technicians is receiving calls related to hearing aid problems.

To help clarify and put your minds at ease about your hearing aids being broken, I want to walk you through the issue and how Apple will address it.

Problems Connecting Devices to iPhone 12 with Bluetooth

Bluetooth is the application used by Apple to link or pair various devices to the new iPhone 12.

Still, many who purchased the new device are experiencing connectivity issues following the tech giant’s simultaneous release of their new product and software update.

The iPhone 12 or the latest iOS 14 software update has compatibility issues with Bluetooth, which does not provide sufficient support to secure the pairing process.

The iOS 14 software release took most of the initial blame, but as users on Apple’s discussion forum continue to register complaints, it is evident that users of the iPhone 11 Pro or an older model smartphone who are using the new software update are not having the same pairing issues.

For the time being, the iPhone 12 device is receiving the bulk of the blame.

Hearing Aid Pairing and the iPhone 12

Just like when linking other devices to the iPhone 12, hearing aid users struggle with pairing their hearing aids to their new iPhone using Bluetooth.

When a link is established, users experience distorted sound or static in their hearing aids well as loud, uncomfortable noise during a phone call.

Also, users report a weak linkup between the smartphone and their hearing aids, causing it to cut-out in either or both ears.

In September/October of 2019, Apple experienced similar Bluetooth connectivity issues when they released the iPhone 11 and iOS 13 software update.

You would think that with the issue being fresh on their minds, designers of the iPhone 12 would have done a better job of avoiding the same issue, but it looks like Apple dropped the ball again with their latest simultaneous release.

Is Apple Addressing the Issue?

Patience will be the key as hearing aid users wait for the tech giant to work through what is probably a massive list of bugs and faults associated with their new product and software update.

Most thought that the iOS 14.2 update would correct the problem, but that does not seem to be the case as the issue continues to persist.

Assurances have been given by Apple regarding Made for iPhone hearing devices, reporting that working out the bugs is a top priority they hope to resolve with future iOS 14 software updates.

Since it could be a while, I must assure our hearing aid patients in Abilene and the surrounding communities that the connectivity issues you are experiencing are not due to damage or malfunctioning of your hearing aids.
