Better Hearing Month has arrived, and we are very excited about it.
This month gives us a chance to promote healthy hearing and provide some educational material to everyone in Abilene and the surrounding communities.
Online hearing aid companies are popping up more and more. These are companies that provide hearing devices directly to their customers. Typically, they have you do a hearing test online and then mail the hearing devices to you where you can then self-fit them.
Given how integrated the internet is in our lives these days, it’s easy to sign on and get all the answers you are looking for.
But are these answers correct?
Are the resources credible?
And most importantly, are they safe for you and your family?
When dealing with online hearing aids, these are tough questions to ask.
Why Are They Now Popular?
While hearing technology has come a long way over the years, so has online marketing. These companies invest large amounts of money to get their product in front of you and they are very good at it.
By saying all the right things, it would be a mistake to not at least click on an ad here or there to satisfy your curiosity.
Over time, as you read about how easy it is to order and how inexpensive they are, it’s human nature to eventually “break down” and submit your credit card info.
Cheaper doesn’t always mean better. We know the science behind what we do. Cutting out the middleman (in this case, the hearing expert) sometimes works, for example, when buying a TV or a new phone case.
However, when dealing with healthcare products, I’d be interested to see how those patients are doing a year or so down the road. Are they hearing better? Are they satisfied with the level of service they are receiving?
Our Hearing Aids vs. Online Hearing Devices
- The main difference is we test and fit you in person. This is critical. Three people can come through our doors with the same hearing loss and react completely differently with the same type of hearing aid. Everyone’s body is different. Your eardrum, canal, and preferences are all unique to you, and we address those aspects head-on.
- We customize your treatment plan, from the type of device we fit you with to the number of appointments you have. Your outcomes and goals determine our course of action, in the beginning and for years to come.
- We are experts in the area. We know we shouldn’t take medical advice from WebMD, so why would you take hearing advice in the same way?
- We are here for the long haul. We wouldn’t be in this field if we didn’t have a genuine interest in helping our patients. Follow-up care is crucial in keeping you always hearing your best for years to come. That is why we have regular check-ups and testing appointments scheduled for all our patients.
What Is the Process of Getting A Hearing Aid?
As most of you know, there is A LOT more that goes into getting your hearing aids sounding the way you want them to. Could you imagine having all your appointments be over the telephone or computer?
Our team of hearing care professionals administer a comprehensive hearing assessment that takes all aspects of your physical hearing and daily environment into account. It’s this kind of attention to detail that will improve your hearing and hopefully your everyday life. It’s our pleasure.
