Dr Sue Ann Holland-Vargas
AU.D., FAAA, AUDIOLOGIST
In 1980, Sue Ann came to Abilene and joined the staff at the West Texas Rehabilitation Center (WTRC) as a Clinical Audiologist. During her 24 years at WTRC, she served as Clinician, Clinical Supervisor, Assistant Director of Audiology, and her last 10 years, as Director of the Hearing and Balance Center. In 2004, Holland Hearing Center opened. Since its opening, the community of Abilene has selected Holland Hearing Center as the “Best Hearing Aid Provider.”
Sue Ann has served the Abilene community as well as her profession by serving on several Boards. She’s served as president of the local chapter of the Big Country Speech, Language, & Hearing Association, president of the Texas Academy of Audiology, secretary of the YMCA, and chairman of the Disability Resources, Inc. board.
Born in Philadelphia and predominantly raised in Dallas, Abilene has been Sue Ann’s home for almost forty years. She and her late husband Jay (who also worked at Holland Hearing Center) have one daughter, Ashley, two grandsons, Jason and Evan, and now great granddaughter Amayah Jaylynn. The entire family has grown up with a passion for high school and college football. Jay & Sue Ann enjoyed travels to Africa where they developed a “home away from home,” which Sue Ann continues to visit.
In January 2021 Sue Ann married Isidro Vargas-Garcia. Isidro is from Oaxaca, Mexico. Sue Ann now looks forward to adventures in Mexico with Isidro. In 2022 they plan to begin splitting time every three months between Abilene, Texas and Oaxaca, Mexico.
