Comprehensive Hearing Evaluations in Abilene, TX
Holland Hearing Center provides comprehensive hearing evaluations and tinnitus (ringing-in-the ear) evaluations. We offer individual solutions considering both lifestyle as well as budget to treat tinnitus and hearing loss.
Otoscopy is an examination that involves looking into the ear with an otoscope. This is performed in order to examine the external auditory canal, the tunnel that leads from the outer ear (pinna) to the eardrum.
Cerumen, also known as earwax, is naturally produced by the glands in the ears to lubricate the ear canals and keep dust and debris from getting too far down in the ear canal. Our Doctors are skilled at removing ear wax in the office.
Tympanometry is an examination used to test the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal. Tympanometry is an objective test of middle-ear function.
Pure tone Air/Bone Conduction
Patient is placed in the sound booth wearing insert earphones and different tones are presented. The patient responds when he/she can hear the tone by pressing a patient response button.
Word Recognition Testing
Words are presented through the insert headphones in the soundbooth and patient repeats them back to the audiologist.
Speech in Noise Measurements
Patient repeats sentences (with competing noise) back to the audiologist. During each sentence the competing noise gets louder to assess how well the patient can hear in a real world environment.
The combination of these tests help the audiologist to determine the nature and degree of the patient’s hearing loss. This gives the Doctor valuable tools in offering the most appropriate solution for the patient’s hearing loss.
